Bow Thrash Follyhill United in Cup 1st Round

Bowenhurst have secured their place in the second round of the Division 5 Cup with a comfortable 7-1 win over Follyhill United Reserves.

The afternoon kick-off had given us longer to prepare but on a very bobbly pitch the advantage could be anyone's. The two teams were very even for the first part of the match and, although chances had been created at either end, neither side had made them count.

Robin Pearmain finally broke the deadlock for Bowenhurst. He picked the ball up on the edge of the Follyhill penalty area and, after a couple of attempts, calmly slotted the ball under the keeper from a tight angle.

David Watson in the Bowenhurst goal then made a great point-blank save to keep our lead intact before Stuart Lavin ran onto a through ball to give Bowenhurst a 2-0 advantage.

In the second half Bowenhurst looked to extend their lead. The defence had been in control for much of the game so Matthew Sharp was allowed forward to be a target for a Bow throw-in. Stuart Lavin's long throw into the the near post was met by Matthew who, in trying to flick it on, looped his header over the keeper and into the far corner of the goal.

Bowenhurst's fourth was scored by Paul Robertson who was found in space on the left of the pitch. His fierce left-footed strike was fumbled into the net by the Follyhill keeper.

Stuart Lavin scored again from the penalty spot after he himself was brought down by the keeper. Another well taken penalty, his second in two games.

Paul Robertson and Ian Vout combined brilliantly on the edge of the Follyhill penalty area and the move finished with Ian smashing the ball in off the far post. Paul scored our seventh goal of the game with an almost identical strike soon after.

Follyhill pulled a late goal back towards the end of the game with a neat header at the near post from a corner. They also had another shot at goal that David was able to palm over the bar. The game was beyond Follyhill at this point but it would have been fitting if the defence had kept a clean sheet.
